CASE STUDY 9:

Refurbishment and Asset Lifecycle Services

Project Specification

Capex restraints in recent years have resulted in a considerable increase in demand for our asset refurbishment services. The physical condition of the reeler in this project presented a challenge as it was unused for over six years.  The reeler was shipped to us from Malaysia, where it had been abandoned in an external storage facility.

The equipment specification for the umbilical reeler included:

  • Zone 1 Hazardous Area.
  • 76mm diameter.
  • 2,150m length.
  • 10 lines with max working pressure of 20k psi.
  • 3 electrical quad cables.

Our Delivery

Given that this reeler had been manufactured by HCS, the steel frame and substructure quality were 100% assured.

Every component of the disassembled unit was reworked, shot blast and repainted.

All hydraulics, valves and electrics were replaced. New and enhanced features were incorporated into the reeler, including external greasing points. Safety features, including interlocking safety guards, were engineered and fitted to upgrade the reeler to the current machinery directive standards.

Finally, a new umbilical was spooled, and an onsite FAT test was completed prior to shipping as per client instructions.

The Result

A project delivered on time and on budget, this 16-year-old reeler left our factory in “as new” condition.  We were delighted to present the project to the client with the reeler fully certified to the latest industry standards.
